Ukraine must continue to receive military assistance from NATO and other countries in order to be able to fight in a full-scale war and defeat Russia.
This was stated by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Security Policy and Political Affairs Boris Ruge in an exclusive interview with the leading and special correspondent of the ICTV channel Vladimir Runts.
Will Ukraine win
— Obviously, this is a very difficult time for Ukraine, because Russia continues its aggression. Because the support that Ukraine expects from its partners is not provided at the required level. The situation is very difficult, and we must speak clearly about this. What I will return to Brussels with? There is a need for Ukraine to receive the support it needs. We need to maintain supplies for Ukraine so that it can fight this war and win, — emphasized the NATO Assistant Secretary General.
In his opinion, Ukraine needs to be supported more strongly in order to win the war, preserve independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also stop the Russian aggressor.
Now watching
— I think it's possible. It is not easy, and we must understand this, that NATO — it is a union of democratic countries. Sometimes decisions take longer to make than we would like. But we have potential in NATO states that think alike, including countries outside of Europe, that Ukraine needs to be supported so that it can win, maintain independence, sovereignty and stop Russia, — he states.
We need to look at the situation soberly
The NATO Assistant Secretary General noted that Russia was able to increase military production, perhaps even better than some expected. But, in his opinion, it is impossible to say for sure that Russia is not suffering due to sanctions.
— Nobody underestimates the Russian Federation. Everyone understands that Putin wants to commit various atrocities, harm Ukraine, and kill civilians. We know about this. We knew about this before February 24, 2022, because we saw what Russia was doing in Crimea, in the East of Ukraine, — explained Boris Ruge.
He recalled that it was because of Russia that the war in Syria began, and NATO sees attempts to achieve a political goal through brutality.
— Russia sparked a war in Syria, killed civilians, bombed hospitals. We understand Russia's attempts to achieve a political goal through cruelty. We need to step up assistance so that Ukraine can fight and win — That's for sure. You need to look at this situation soberly, but not pessimistically, — says NATO Assistant Secretary General.
