U.S. President Joe Biden is embarking on an Asian tour. This region has been relevant for the United States for a long time.

In recent years, the Asia-Pacific region has played a key role in countering China. This was told to Channel 24 by the head of the Asia-Pacific region section of the CSACR Yuri Poita.

Back to news cke-markup to the challenges of China. The document is about 500 – 600 pages long and does not actually mention the European region.

The main measures that the United States will take to strengthen its allies concern precisely the Asia-Pacific region. Engaging with partners in the region is a key challenge for the United States,” Poita stressed.

For the United States of America, the challenges from China are of a strategic scale. They are long term. This is confirmed both in Beijing and Washington.

A new stage of relations

A new stage of relations has begun between the US and China – long-term strategic competition. It will last for at least several decades.

Therefore, at present, the United States is preparing as much as possible for this – both within the country and in coordination with alliances, – the expert explained.

He noted that Biden's tour lies in the trend of policy to strengthen coordination with alliances, their ability to response to threats from the PRC.

“The Asia-Pacific region is now the main one”

China is one of the greatest economies in the world. It is developing its armed forces quite intensively; technology sector; those industries that will allow the PRC to conduct military operations outside the national territories. This is all exactly what the United States is doing now.

“Therefore, we observe that the Asia-Pacific region is now the main one and it has always been more attention on it,” Poita said.

Two regions are important for the USA

There was less attention in relation to the European region. However, the situation changed after the full-scale invasion of Russia.

If the aggressor state regained its influence in Ukraine, it could actually change the security architecture in the European region and significantly reduce US influence in Europe, creating a “split” and strengthening the strategic autonomy of the European Union, which is sought by both the United States and China, Poita emphasized.

Both regions are quite important for the United States. The loss of any positions, the loss of Washington, for example, in the European region regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, will significantly affect the positions in the Asian region.
