This conflict has dragged on and needs to be ended, says US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Sofia Rozsic

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the upcoming peace talks. He noted that the war in Ukraine has dragged on and it is time to end it.

The official noted that Ukraine has already been thrown back 100 years, in particular, due to the destroyed energy sector and forced emigration. This was reported by Channel 24, citing Rubio's interview on The Megyn Kelly Show on Sirius XM.

The US goal is to end the war in Ukraine

Marco Rubio noted that “someone will have to pay” for the restoration of Ukraine.

According to him, Trump considers the war in Ukraine a protracted conflict, so “it needs to be ended now.” However, Rubio noted that “both sides will have to give something up,” as is the case in any negotiations.

I'm not going to determine prematurely what that will be – this is a matter of serious diplomacy, the kind we did in the world in the past, when we were realists. But in order for negotiations to take place, both sides will have to make concessions, and this will take time, – the US Secretary of State said.

He noted that the goal of the United States is “not to maintain this war forever,” because it is not profitable. And especially for Russia, whose economy is suffering and inflation is rising.

Rubio also noted that more and more American Democrats are recognizing that the war in Ukraine, which is losing more and more territory, is “a dead-end, protracted conflict, perhaps even worse than a dead-end situation.”
