Ukrainian soldiers courageously resist the Russian invasion in Bakhmut, where fierce fighting has been going on for several months. However, even if this city is captured, the invaders will not get anything good.
This was told to Channel 24 by a political scientist, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Kirill Sazonov. In the meantime, according to him, the occupiers have run into the Bakhmutka River, where, due to mud, it is difficult for both equipment and people to move.
Bakhmut no one is going to surrender
Sazonov noted that rumors about the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Bakhmut are deliberately dispersed. In fact, only one unit was withdrawn from there, because the General Staff needed it elsewhere. Who entered instead of him is a military secret. But Bakhmut himself is not going to surrender.
Therefore, the rumors that we are going from here are somewhat exaggerated, – the military AFU emphasized.
According to him, the occupiers entered from the east and ran into the Bakhmutka River, and there, because of the mud, it is difficult for both equipment and people to move. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing new forces for our counteroffensive.
The occupiers will become targets, as in a shooting range
The fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that Bakhmut should not be underestimated, since this is the Mariupol-Donetsk-Kurdyumovka-Bakhmut-Slavyansk route. If we take into account the West, then this is the route to Konstantinovka through the Seversky Donets, Pokrovsk and Dnieper canals. Therefore, this city has a certain strategic importance.
On the other hand, even if they occupy the whole of Bakhmut, then there are three heights nearby. And Bakhmut is in the lowlands. All three heights are ours, and for artillery it will be just a shooting range then,” Sazonov said.
That is, he noted, the occupiers will not get anything good. But for Russia, Bakhmut has a huge symbolic meaning. The fighting around it has been going on for more than six months, and the occupiers have repeatedly promised to take it, and even several times announced the capture, since they really need to report at least some kind of “victory”.
Defense of Bakhmut: what is known
- The Bakhmut direction remains the epicenter of hostilities in the future. The Russians are constantly storming the city, inflicting hundreds of attacks a day. That is why the relevance of retaining Bakhmut is constantly growing.
- Bakhmut is the main direction of the enemy's strike. According to the speaker of the Eastern Group of Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty, the invaders have been strengthened by airborne troops.
- The ISW explained why the fight for this city in the Donetsk region has become strategically important. After all, they wrote earlier that Bakhmut is inherently not significant in operational or strategic terms.
