The story of the oil and gas embargo takes place, in particular, against the backdrop of very high gas prices in Europe. This happened on February 24.
Therefore, the countries of the Western world have been angry with Russia for a long time. Oleksandr Solontai, director of the practical policy program at the Institute of Political Education, told Channel 24 about this.
In his opinion, the process of imposing the embargo is due not only to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, but also to record gas prices.
Russia's desire to take revenge has existed for a long time, Solontai emphasized.
In addition, the embargo is also a matter of money. Now we are talking about tens of billions of euros, as the expert explained.
Recall that the European Union has not yet voted for the 6th package of sanctions against Russia. He assumes that Russian oil will fall under the restrictions , several large banks, Russian TV channels and occupiers suspected of crimes against civilians in Bucha, Kyiv region.
Hungary is currently blocking the process of introducing new sanctions, demanding money from the EU in order to seamlessly close off oil supplies from the country -aggressor.

- The European Union plans to completely abandon Russian oil within 6 months and oil products within 8 months as part of the 6th package of sanctions against Russia.
