The Russians launched a new large-scale offensive in the Donetsk direction, despite the frenzied losses. However, the invaders may open another front to divert the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Donbass.
The Kremlin is amassing tens of thousands of soldiers outside the range of US-made high-precision missiles. It is assumed that they can prepare to encircle the Ukrainian forces located in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
In which direction can the Russians open the front
An attack from a new front is possible only because of the approach of the occupiers from the territory of Russia itself. Therefore, the Ukrainians are closely monitoring the movement of forces and equipment around the border city Sumy, as well as attempts to return to Kharkiv region.
Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Zagorodniuk expects the Russian army to try to capture Donbass and then “announce the end of the special operation” and trigger negotiations.
This will be Russia's third attempt to capture Donbass since the start of the war – the first two failed.

The British Defense Intelligence Agency noted that Russia has been trying to launch “big offensive operations” since the beginning of January, but it managed to conquer only a few hundred meters of territory per week due to lack of ammunition and maneuver units.
Russia wants to act quickly, and President Vladimir Putin is constantly putting pressure on his newly appointed commander in Ukraine, General Valery Gerasimov. The Kremlin dictator is trying to seize the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions to demonstrate the “success” to domestic and international audiences after months of ignominious failures.
