There is only one tactic – a cruel and crushing blockade of the city. In the first days of the war, the aggressor tried to cordon off Nikolaev and set up a blockade.
In an interview with NikVesti, Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, head of the defense of Nikolaev during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February-March 2022 Dmitry Marchenko spoke about Russia's plan to capture Nikolaev. He assured that thanks to the well-coordinated work of the city and the united territorial communities (UTC), the invaders were stopped on the approaches to the city.
Marchenko once again emphasized the cruelty of Russian military personnel on the territory of Ukraine. These monsters cynically kill Ukrainians, torture, rape, let them go through filtration camps, by the way, even children are sent “for filtration”.
If they entered the city, it would be if only everyone… If there was Bucha, Irpen… Nikolaev, in general, they “took” according to the plan of Mariupol: to encircle, push all the troops to the city center, to some object, plant, cut off electricity, water, and just marinate us while we we won’t start to go crazy, we will run out of ammunition, food, water…,” Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated.
The military noted that the fact that everyone was able to unite and take up defense helped not turn Nikolaev into Mariupol-2. We are talking about Ukrainian troops, territorial defense, partisans and others.
“Considering that tanks were already trying to drive into the city, the situation was very dangerous,” Marchenko stressed.
In particular , according to him, clear and timely communication of Nikolaev with the settlements of the region and the united territorial communities helped to contain the offensive of the Russian invaders.

What is the situation now in the Mykolaiv region: briefly
- The Operational Command “South” reported that in Mykolaiv region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine clashed with Russian servicemen who dressed up in the form of Ukrainian fighters. Note that this did not help the enemy, because the AFU repulsed the attack, and the Russians lost four of their orcs.
- On the evening of May 24, the invaders launched an artillery strike on Nikolaev. The Russians used the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system. As a result, a multi-storey building was damaged. One person was injured.
- During the day on May 24, the Kremlin mercenaries fired at the Nikolaev region several times. Due to numerous shelling, 4 people were injured. All the victims have been taken to medical institutions of the region and receive the necessary assistance.
