Zelensky spoke about the role of supporting the West/Office of the President
The interest of Western countries in supporting the sovereignty of Ukraine has a decisive place on the diplomatic battlefield. However, instead of a specific position, some European states are trying to “reconcile” us with the Russian side in order to continue doing business with the aggressor country.
Vladimir Zelensky said this in an interview with the Financial Times editor Ruli Khalaf, Channel 24 reports. Note that the president refused to name states that compromise their conscience.
Western countries act like sappers
Commenting on what is happening with the sanctions policy of Europe, Zelensky noted that defiantly most states support Ukraine. But when it comes to action, there are constant fluctuations.
So far, the president has the impression that the West is checking what else can be done to ease sanctions so that the business of this or that state does not suffer.
Constantly, like sappers, they try to push through this or that initiative,โ he commented on the policy of partners.
Vladimir Zelensky noted that today Ukraine pays great attention to the sanctions policy against Russia.
“We “we believe that sanctions are a powerful weapon. A modern economic weapon without bloodshed. Therefore, I want it not to be just a phrase: “sanctions against Russia do not work. They work when they are specifically implemented and when we all do not allow them to be circumvented,” the president stressed.
Reaction to Macron
During the interview, Ruli Khalaf recalled the words of Emanuel Macron, who urged “not to humiliate” Russia, so that after the war she would get out of isolation. In addition, according to her, a number of European states are already discussing the issue of a ceasefire without the direct involvement of Ukraine.
How is it possible to cease fire on the territory of Ukraine without the position of the people of this state and the leader of this state,โ Zelensky was indignant.
He believes that some Western leaders want to consider themselves as such, but for this you need to behave accordingly. At a minimum, have an impact on the result and give something other than words.
Give me a weapon. Put Putin at the negotiating table. You can sit at this table and act not only with the words “let's cease fire,” he added.
The head of state stated that he did not yet see an appropriate configuration in which it would be possible to cease fire.
What else was said in the interview:
- Zelensky commented on the offensive potential of Ukraine. According to him, our army needs to have 10 times more equipment and people.
- The President recalled that Russian ships continue to block Ukrainian ports, which is why Ukraine cannot export grain, barley, and the like.
- Zelensky said that he was pleased with the news of the continuation of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of Great Britain. The President of Ukraine added that he considers him a real friend of Ukraine.
