Russians still do not rule in the air/Defense Express

Military observer Ilya Ponomarenko explained that this is due to the very strong saturation of Ukrainian troops with MANPADS. He spoke about this on air on Channel 24.
According to him, MANPADS are not very adapted to the destruction of fighters. It's more of a temper than a sufficient power of this weapon.
But when there are a lot of these MANPADS systems and they are used correctly, they create a fairly serious threat, a big chance to destroy aircraft. That is why they make the enemy think hard and worry about their survival. – explained Ilya Ponomarenko.
He noted that, objectively, the Ukrainian Air Force (Vozdushnye Vozdushnye sily – Channel 24) is rather weak, although it performs its functions and certain missions. Meanwhile, Russia, with all the number of aircraft, does not allow them to go to any operational depth in Ukraine. After all, he understands that the risk of defeats by the Ukrainian troops is very high.
“Our stationary air defense systems have demonstrated very strong effectiveness. Although we have few modernized serious systems, therefore, the quality also helped here “, – said Ilya Ponomarenko.
The military observer noted that the Russians seem to have a strong air force, but the saturation of the Ukrainian troops and the skill of air defense – this balances. Already 5 months of war, but the Russians still have not been able to gain air supremacy.
Qualification of Russian pilots
Ilya Ponomarenko emphasized that this war made it possible to destroy a lot of myths that we even believed in. This also applies to the Russian Air Force.
Perhaps someone will disagree with me in such an assessment, but I have not seen any episodes where there would be real skill of aces pilots from the Russian side. With their technological and quantitative superiority over the Ukrainian Air Force, – said Ilya Ponomarenko.
“From our side, I saw many examples where a very weak air force, with an old fleet of aircraft and almost no experience, demonstrated survival against such a force. And 5 months after the start of a full-scale war, continues carry out missions that prevent the enemy from gaining complete air supremacy”, – added a military observer.
