Ukraine has recently increased attacks on Russian early warning systems for nuclear missile attacks. In Washington, they expressed concerns about such activation.

This was reported by The Washington Post, citing sources. It is noted that the United States is concerned that such attacks “could seriously worry Moscow.”

Are sensitive areas for Russia

An American official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the United States is concerned about our country’s recent strikes on ballistic missile early warning sites of the aggressor country. Washington expressed concern to Kyiv about two attempts to attack radar stations.

They provide conventional air defense, as well as warning of nuclear launches by the West last week . That time, at least one strike in Armavir, in Russia's southeastern Krasnodar region, was reported to have caused some damage.

These sites were not involved in supporting the war against Ukraine, but they are sensitive locations because Russia may now believe its strategic deterrent is being targeted, which could undermine its ability to maintain a nuclear deterrent against the United States, the US official said.

What they say in Ukraine

The Washington Post writes that one Ukrainian An official familiar with this issue assured that Russia used radar stations to monitor the activities of the Ukrainian military, in particular, the use of drones and missiles by Kiev.

According to the publication, he also confirmed , that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is responsible for the strikes. The purpose of these strikes was to weaken Russia's ability to monitor the activities of the Ukrainian military in the south of our state.

Noted. that the drone, whose target was a radar station near Orsk, Orenburg region, flew more than 1.7 thousand kilometers. Such a distance makes this strike one of the deepest attempts to penetrate Russian territory. then harm.

Such actions can become a problem

Officials in the United States expressed sympathy for the “fate of Ukraine” and stated that they were weighing the issue of lifting restrictions on the use of American weapons to strike Russian territory.

However, according to an American official, if Russian early warning systems are hit even partially, it could damage strategic stability in relations between the United States and Russia.

Russia may think that its ability to detect early nuclear activity against it has diminished, and this could become a problem. It should be obvious to everyone that there is no intention (USA – ed.) to use nuclear weapons against Russia. But there are certainly concerns about how Russia might perceive its deterrent forces being targeted and its early warning systems being attacked, the unnamed official said.

The publication also claims that some experts were somewhat puzzled by the Ukrainian choice of targets. However, the Ukrainian official said that Russia had “switched all its capabilities to the war against Ukraine,” which is why such a distant target was chosen.

The American official also said that there are no restrictions on Ukraine's use of US-provided air defenses to shoot down Russian missiles or fighters over Russian territory “if they pose a threat to Ukraine.”

However, US officials have repeatedly expressed concern regarding Kyiv's attacks on Russian territory, sometimes even interfering at the planning stage.

Attacks on Russian radar stations

  • May 27, a Ukrainian drone attacked the Voronezh-M over-the-horizon air target detection radar station. It is located near Orsk, which is already 1800 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. This is a new record. Previously, our defenders were not able to hit targets at such a distance using drones.
  • Subsequently, satellite images from the location of the radar station were published online. The photographs show dark spots that were not there before. Unfortunately, the available images do not yet allow us to assess in detail how serious the damage to this station is.
  • It is known that such radars perform early warning tasks about the launch of ballistic missiles. Such systems help Russia see what is happening at a distance of about 6 thousand kilometers. They are part of the nuclear triad. In total, the occupiers have 10 such stations.
  • The day before, Ukrainian attack UAVs attacked the Russian over-the-horizon early warning radar station “Voronezh-DM” in the Krasnodar region. The strike was carried out on the territory of the 818th separate radio engineering center near the village of Glubokiy.
