Vladimir Zelensky/Office of the President
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Western countries did not show their common position too actively in the early days of Russia's war against Ukraine. And their common voice could have saved many lives of Ukrainians.
According to Zelensky, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could have prevented death in Ukraine. Indeed, in Russia there is a rather strict vertical of power, so it is he who is responsible for everything. He expressed this opinion in an interview for the 60 Minutes program of the American CBS television channel.
At the same time, pressure from Western countries could more quickly influence Putin in his decisions regarding the war against Ukraine.
I think that Putin may not hear me. I understand this. Because they have imperial ambitions, a great power with a big army. Although now they understand that we can respond. But not to hear the United States, Britain or the jointly united Western world – he could not help but hear a tough position, – Volodymyr Zelensky said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president noted that Western countries, before Russia's military intervention in Ukraine were not united. And each of the leaders of these countries paid priority attention to their internal affairs, and not to the war that began in Europe.
“If they understood that this is the most important thing, to put powerful pressure on Putin … They could. He should have heard them,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced.
