Under Ugledar, the invaders will suffer huge losses. They throw elite units to storm the city, which are destroyed by Ukrainian defenders.
This was told to Channel 24 by the press officer of the 68th separate Jaeger brigade Evgeny Nazarenko. In his opinion, the Russians need to show some result at any cost. After all, there is an order from the Kremlin – at least to go to the administrative borders of the Donetsk region.
Ugledar – the dominant height
He noted that Vuhledar is an extremely important settlement for the occupiers, because this city is a dominant height.
If they take Ugledar, we will have to retreat significantly, because we will be in unfavorable positions. And we protect the lives of our military. After all, to stand under a big mountain and for the Russians to see us and our logistical routes for the supply of ammunition, personnel, etc. – said the press officer.
According to him, Ugledar is one of the most important settlements in the southern part of Donbass.
The Russians also understand that for us Ugledar is a strategic point for a further counteroffensive. From there, from a dominant height, you can attack Berdyansk, Mariupol, recapture the Zaporozhye and then the Kherson region,” he noted.
Nazarenko stressed that despite the fact that the Russians are trying to take Vuhledar, the military command of Ukraine has provided the city with sufficient forces and means to defend the city and prevent the enemy from carrying out their plans.
“And they have already completely destroyed the city itself,” he added.
We see the enemy for 2 – 3 kilometers
According to him, the occupiers “lick their wounds” and collect some kind of fist. But it is clear that they will continue to attack.
He noticed that the invaders were climbing on the city past the steppe massifs. In addition, the Kashlagach River creates problems for them to move.
“The Russians could have changed tactics and surrounded the city, bypassed it from the flanks. And they even tried to do it. But they didn't succeed. Therefore, their only option is to climb head-on on Ugledar in columns, explode on mines, be destroyed under the fire of our artillerymen and tankers,” the press officer said.

He explained that the Ukrainian defenders see the enemy when he starts the attack, 2-3 kilometers away, because he is perfectly visible from the mountain. And destroying the occupiers is a small problem, although, of course, you need to work.
I don't think they will change tactics. Or they will calm down here and transfer their desire to advance to other directions – to Bakhmut or Toretsk (they say that there are problems with movement along the road). Or, under Ugledar, it is necessary to catch up with a colossal number of troops, but they do not have them, – the interlocutor emphasized.
“Perhaps they have no problems with people, but they have a catastrophic lack of equipment, shells, artillery, tanks,” said Yevgeny Nazarenko.
