Greece refused to transfer air defense to Ukraine

The head of the Greek government noted that his country supported Ukraine in various ways, in particular defense materials.

“But we said from the first moment that we cannot get rid of weapons systems that are critical to our deterrence capabilities,” he said.

In particular, Mitsotakis noted , that if the country has a surplus of material with which to support our state, then this has already been done. And, if the Greeks can find such material, they will continue to do so.

But the air defense systems you mentioned are critical important for the protection of Greek airspace and will not be provided to Ukraine, added the Prime Minister of Greece.

Previously they wrote that Greece could transfer Patriot to Ukraine

  • Pronews wrote on April 24 that Greece will allegedly transfer its Patriot Pac anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine 3 with “guarantees” from the USA. However, journalists did not say what guarantees these were.
  • Journalists write that in total Greece has 6 Patriot systems, two of them are located in Athens. Journalists also explained that they do not rule out the transfer of a second Patriot system to Kyiv and predict that this could cause disputes within the country.
  • It is worth noting that the Patriot Pac 3 air defense system can shoot down ballistic missiles short- and medium-range missiles. That is, they are talking about the missiles of the S-300 and S-400 complexes and the X-22 missiles, with which Russia is cynically attacking Ukraine.
  • Previously, the Financial Times wrote that the EU allies NATO is putting pressure on Greece and Spain, urging them to transfer additional air defense systems to Ukraine. Countries were told that their needs were not that great and they did not face any threat from enemies.
