These are not North Korean weapons: why ballistic missiles from Iran are very dangerous Victoria Grabovskaya

Western media reported that Russia received more than 200 ballistic missiles from Iran. The enemy is likely to use them to attack the territory of Ukraine. Compared to the weapons that North Korea supplied to Russia, Iranian missiles are more modern.

About this 24 Kanalsaid aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap, noting that the transfer of Iranian missiles to Russia is a fairly significant threat. At the same time, the National Security and Defense Council considers this fact to be evidence that Moscow has a shortage of Iskanders, which is why it is forced to buy missiles from Tehran.

A Very Serious Threat

There is a certain stereotype regarding Iran that it is a secondary, underdeveloped country. However, this state has a fairly high technological level and has developed a powerful missile and nuclear programs.

Iran began by producing missiles with a range of 85 and 120 kilometers, and their accuracy was at the level of 100 meters. Today, the latest generation of Iranian missiles, in particular, Fateh, has an accuracy of 3 meters. The Zolfaghar missile can cover a distance of 700 – 800 kilometers and has an accuracy of 5 meters.

These are not North Korean weapons. If Iranian missiles are in service with Russia, this will be a very serious threat, the aviation expert emphasized.

If Iran really transferred weapons to Russia, then, according to the aviation expert, they could be short- and medium-range.

Short-range weapons are from the Ababil family of unmanned systems. They are used for reconnaissance, adjustment, and precision strikes. These products can fly at a range of 100, 250 kilometers and carry various types of ammunition.

Ababil is a small missile, although it has a very developed aerodynamic surface. Its length is 3.7 meters, weight – 240 kilograms. It is capable of flying a distance of 90 kilometers. However, its main parameters are classified, – noted Krivolap.

Medium-range weapon – Fateh-110 missile. Iran has been producing it since 2022, and now there is a fourth-generation missile, which is highly accurate.

Please note! Military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko noted that the Iranian Zolfaghar missiles with a range of 600 kilometers and a warhead of more than half a ton are very powerful and difficult to intercept weapons. This is not just a ballistic missile – its warhead immediately separates from the booster unit and at that moment it is more difficult to stop.

The Iranians could also transfer Zolfaghar missiles to Russia, which have a range of 700 kilometers and are equipped with a fairly powerful warhead. All medium-range missiles have a warhead weighing from 450 to 650 kilograms.

Thanks to this, their destruction capability is significantly higher than that of the Iskanders and missiles weighing about 500 kilograms, which are currently used by both the Russians and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, Storm Shadow, SCALP EG, etc., he explained.

Iran also has the Fath-360 medium-range missile in service, which has the most advanced orientation system.

“If short-range weapons fly only by GPS, then these missiles can switch to an inertial guidance system, which protects it. They fly at high speed, and at short distances they will be very difficult to intercept. In addition, the latest generation Fateh missiles also have an optical-electronic guidance system, so this is a truly modern and very dangerous weapon,” noted Konstantin Krivolap.
