In Ukraine, 51 sites have been created for the detention of prisoners of war in many regions of the country. In addition, a camp for prisoners of war was opened in the West of our state, and they even work there.

How captured invaders are kept

Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denis Malyuska told Channel 24 about this. He explained that the sites are separate isolated premises where prisoners of war are kept separately from other prisoners and convicts.

If an occupier was taken prisoner somewhere near Kharkiv or Donetsk region, it is logistically difficult to immediately move him to a prisoner of war camp in the west of the country. In addition, this is not always possible, because it takes a certain time, and it is not always advisable, because sometimes a request for an exchange appears quite quickly. Therefore, it is better to wait a week somewhere in the East to go to the exchange.

Accordingly, the prisoners must be kept somewhere. Therefore, separate units were created in pre-trial detention centers and prisons, where prisoners of war are specialized. It is much more convenient logistically.

How kafirs work in Ukraine

Those prisoners who do not have prospects for a quick exchange are logistically delivered to the West. There they are involved in woodworking. However, now this system is just beginning to be debugged.

Before the camp was launched, the Ministry of Justice wanted to involve prisoners of war in work, but it is almost impossible to organize this at the sites, given the lack of production facilities and the need to isolate them from other convicts.

And if this is a camp exclusively for prisoners of war, then operationally and administratively it is possible to ensure their work. They work there, do woodworking,” said Malysh.

Currently, the captured Russians are fulfilling commercial orders from companies for the production or repair of various wooden structures. These can be pallets, boxes or wood chips for kindling fires. According to the minister, so far this is the only business where prisoners of war can be recruited. In addition, he does not need skilled labor.

The kid noticed that the prisoners of war work quite well. They are disciplined, do not create any problems in terms of potential riots or disobedience, follow orders and work actively without refusing.

He explained that according to international law, it is possible to involve prisoners of war in labor, including number and forcibly. However, they already have no refusals – this is their voluntary consent.

Now the Russians work for free, but the Ministry of Justice is considering the potential for theoretical incentives.

“This is only in future plans, the mechanism has not been worked out given the many legislative barriers to this. Therefore, for now they are “volunteer” and work off the damage caused to the state by their military actions,” the minister said.

He noted that if the mayors of cities in Western Ukraine have ideas on attracting prisoners of war to renewable work or manufacturing any products that they can provide to Ukrainian cities, the Ministry of Justice will be happy to offer suggestions.

“We will demonstrate that people have seen or could feel that there is labor of prisoners of war”, – summed up Denis Malyuska.
