Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many of our women and children were left homeless. Some, due to hostilities, cannot return to their native city or village and find out if at least something survived.

Meanwhile, many migrants found refuge in the West of our state and, in particular, in Lviv. On this occasion, the city council initiated the construction of temporary housing for pregnant women. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi showed at what stage it is.

Planned to settle in a month

According to Sadovoy, the construction of temporary housing for pregnant women who were forced to flee the war is actively moving forward in Lviv.

They plan to settle the first residents here in a month, that is, in mid-July.

The most important thing is safety and comfort. Not far from the building, we plan to equip a small lake and a park. Our Alexandra Sladkova from the urban planning department says that it will be a “blue lagoon”. A beautiful corner for relaxation and emotional renewal, open to everyone,” Sadovyi said.

The Mayor of Lviv also thanked the partners from the Red Cross for cooperation and support of such a necessary project.

How Lviv helps IDPs and everyone else

  • The city has become a reliable rear and refuge for many Ukrainians. In particular, a project of the National Rehabilitation Center “Nezlamni” was developed in Lviv. It is necessary for many of our citizens who have suffered from hostilities. Now Ukraine is cooperating with a number of countries that accept our citizens for treatment and prosthetics. Then they return and need serious support that the center in Lviv can provide.
  • Lviv also accepts humanitarian aid and wounded Ukrainian military and civilians for treatment. According to Andrei Sadovoy, not only those who fled from hot spots on their own come to the city. Those who have been traumatized by the war unleashed by Russia also find their refuge in the city. Here they try to help everyone who needs it.
  • They want to make the life of IDPs in Lviv as easy and simple as possible and create conditions for this. The proof of this is that in Lviv they have combined all services for IDPs in one place for convenience. The office for the provision of services will operate in the Lychakiv district administration. Residents of other regions temporarily residing in Lviv will be able to apply there to resolve any issues. They opened such an office on June 15.
