Ukrainian intelligence spoke about a meeting of the Russian command two weeks before the start of a full-scale invasion. There were generals there who understood that Ukrainians would not joyfully greet the invaders. However, there are two reasons why they did not voice this to Vladimir Putin.

We are talking about corruption among the Russian command and Putin's absolute confidence in the decision to launch a full-scale invasion. This opinionChannel 24was voiced by Russian oppositionist, blogger, lawyer Mark Feigin.

Some generals understood what would happen

Mark Feygin believes that some generals understood perfectly well that Russian troops would not be able to capture Ukraine, because Ukrainians would never betray their state and will not joyfully greet the invaders. In particular, the head of the fifth service of the federal security service, Sergei Beseda, who was arrested after military failures in Ukraine, understood this.

There are two reasons why these generals did not try to explain to the Kremlin dictator all the risks for Russia:

  1. Russia's military command was mastering huge funds;
  2. The complete confidence of Putin, who could not be convinced.

Yes, there is a role for corrupt officials. But it is unlikely that they could change the vector and stop the war. The top leadership, Putin and his inner circle had confidence that they would definitely achieve results, the oppositionist noted.

2 weeks before the invasion, a meeting was held in the Kremlin

  • The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, said that two weeks before the start of a full-scale invasion, the Russians held a meeting with rather “interesting” content.
  • The Kremlin believed that Ukrainian Kharkov was waiting for “liberators”, which means it would not resist the invasion of Ukraine, and the occupiers would be able to “soon capture the city” without resistance. However, two weeks before the invasion, doubts began to spread among the Russian military-political leadership about the possibility of such a scenario.
  • Two weeks before February 24, a meeting was held at which they began to discuss whether everything was ready for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine . There was a certain uncertainty that Russian soldiers were waiting there. At this meeting, issues of money allocated for the war against Ukraine were also raised. According to the intelligence chief, these funds were plundered by the Russian military.
  • At the same time, Budanov noted that at the next meeting just before the invasion of Ukraine, the entire military-political leadership of Russia asserted that the army was ready and “we must go in” .
  • Note that Kirill Budanov also remembered that the occupiers did not plan to destroy the Ukrainian Kharkov, but sought to enter there with a solemn march. According to the intelligence chief, the occupiers did not hope for local resistance.
