There was no threat, there was a reason for war: where did Russian troops disappear from the NATO border Angela Figin

Russia, which constantly shouts that it is threatened by the North Atlantic Alliance , after Finland joined NATO, transferred its troops to Ukraine, which were previously located at the Finnish border. Russia's garrisons and military bases are practically empty, although Moscow threatened to strengthen them on the contrary.

According to Finnish intelligence, this situation is now in military bases throughout Russia, except for the Moscow region. In particular, about 80% of the equipment and soldiers from bases near the border with Finland are used in the war against Ukraine. Israeli military observer David Sharp explained to Channel 24 why Russia exposed its borders.

Putin is afraid of losing the opportunity to seize Ukraine

Today, NATO is afraid of escalation and is even afraid to take minor steps that could lead to an escalation of the situation. Russia understands that no one is going to attack it, so it has exposed all its borders, in particular, with the newly-minted NATO countries.

By the way, when the entry into the Alliance of Sweden and Finland became on the agenda, which should be a failure of Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy, because all his life he has been fighting against NATO expansion, and then his actions led to the fact that one country that has not fought for more than 200 years , and the other, neutral and always taking into account Russian-Soviet interests, suddenly joined the North Atlantic Alliance, the dictator took it quite calmly.

Another thing is Ukraine joining NATO. Such a scenario is perceived not as a threat to Russia's security, but as if our state joins the Alliance, then Russia will irrevocably lose the possibility of seizing Ukrainian territories.

What is Russia's primary goal

< p>Against the backdrop of the accumulation of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine in December 2021, Vladimir Putin put forward demands from the United States and NATO for “security guarantees.” In particular, Moscow demanded from the United States and NATO guarantees of non-entry into the Alliance of Ukraine and Georgia and renunciation of any military activity on the territory of Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.

After the US and NATO refused to comply with Moscow’s ultimatum, on February 24, 2022, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine.

Even then it became clear that this only a reason for realizing the main goal – the creation, as Putin puts it, of a “triune Russian state”, capturing a significant part of Ukraine and Belarus, noted a military observer from Israel.

V At the same time, the Kremlin’s talk about NATO is absolutely secondary things. By and large, everyone in Russia who was sane understood that the North Atlantic Alliance had no intention of attacking Russia.
