There is only one question: is Putin still afraid of competition with Navalny?

by alex

The Russian opposition claims the disappearance of Alexei Navalny from a colony in the Vladimir region, where he was serving his sentence. This may be due to the oppositionist’s call to Russians to go to the presidential elections and vote against Vladimir Putin.

Russian opposition journalist Igor Yakovenko told Channel 24 that Navalny is Putin’s personal prisoner. Therefore, he will remain behind bars as long as the head of the Kremlin remains in power.

Navalny determines his own fate

Putin has a very personal attitude towards his enemies. This attitude was “felt” by oppositionist Boris Nemtsov (he was killed in the center of Moscow in 2015 – Channel 24) and businessman Mikhail Khodorkovsky (spent more than 10 years in prison – Channel 24).

< p class="bloquote cke-markup">Putin is a vindictive and evil person, and therefore has personal enemies. Navalny is one of them. He will be in prison as long as Putin is in power. However, there is only one question: will Navalny survive behind bars, will he live to see the end of Putin’s rule? – the opposition journalist emphasized.

Igor Yakovenko believes that Navalny’s return to Russia was a mistake. However, unlike Putin, the oppositionist is a person who determines his own destiny, makes decisions and now bears personal responsibility for them.

Navalny's conclusion

In January 2021, Navalny returned to Russia from Germany after treatment for Novichok poisoning. Upon his return, he was arrested in Moscow and convicted. He initially received a prison sentence of 2 years 8 months. In 2022, he was sentenced to 9 years in prison, and in 2023, he was sentenced to another 19 years in a maximum security colony.

What is known about Navalny’s disappearance from a Russian prison

  • The Russian oppositionist disappeared for more than a week from the maximum security penal colony IK-6 Melekhovo in the Vladimir region, where is serving a sentence. Navalny’s associates were informed that he was no longer registered in this colony.
  • Navalny also did not attend several court hearings, which he usually attended via video link. At the same time, the colony explained the absence of the oppositionist as “technical problems.”
  • The White House responded to Navalny’s disappearance. US presidential administration spokesman John Kirby said that the opposition leader should be “immediately fired.” Moreover, according to Kirby, Navalny “should never have gone to prison.”
