Ukraine has been asking Western partners for tanks for more than six months, but this decision is only now ripe for them. In all likelihood, they expected concessions from Russia and constructive negotiations as a result of the defeat of its troops in the Kharkov and Kherson regions.
About thisChannel 24political scientist Oleksandr Antonyuk said. According to him, all the prerequisites are developing in such a way that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will have no choice but to take responsibility for the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
The political scientist noted that after the successful operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to liberate their territories six months ago, Ukraine's partners expected Russia to be ready for a constructive dialogue. This was also partly hoped for in Ukraine, but no one seriously counted on it.
European politicians really hoped that Russia would understand the consequences for itself and begin to go to a meeting in matters of negotiations and recognition of its guilt. This did not happen, Russia defiantly continues to threaten and attack Ukraine.
Today, according to the political scientist, the Europeans have already realized that it is useless to expect constructiveness from Russia and, moreover, a “cumulative effect” has accumulated, and patience could break in after terrorist act in the Dnieper.
Obviously, already in the political process, they finally reached the point that at the level of the establishment, which has nowhere to pull, – Antonyuk said.
The political scientist is convinced that European politicians understand that Russia is deliberately aggravating the war by its actions, so if not to provide weapons now, in the next phase of the war their countries themselves will have to participate in the war with Russia.
Will Ukraine be provided with aviation
If the situation with tanks is clearing up, then nothing is known with aircraft. According to Antonyuk, the decision to provide aircraft from the politicians of the partner countries has not yet been politically “ripe”, although it should have been before the decision on tanks.

Scholz has nowhere to pull anymore
Alexander Antonyuk said that now we should expect a ban on the supply of German tanks to Ukraine, and a little later Germany will also supply them.
Most likely, restrictions will be lifted, since several countries they have already declared their readiness to transfer the necessary weapons to us, and all the prerequisites are made in such a way that Scholz has nowhere to pull, – said the political scientist.
Antonyuk is convinced that Germany in the coming days will undertake to supply Ukraine with weapons and heavy equipment and ammunition.
Europe is gradually lifting restrictions on weapons for Ukraine
- The European Parliament noted that Ukraine urgently needs military assistance to win the war and called on Olaf Scholz to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine. He declined to answer.
- Latvia and Canada have promised Ukraine armored vehicles, helicopters and drones.
- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for more arms support for Ukraine and welcomed the decision of Great Britain to provide Challenger 2 tanks. He believes that now is a turning point in the war.
