Deputy Minister of Defense Anna Malyar explained why the Ministry of Defense takes a cautious position and talks about a long war.
Anna Malyar noted that that the information they present on the war is coordinated with the General Staff. This is because any facts are part of the military operation that is taking place at the moment.
She added that it is the General Staff that is restrained in forecasts, because the hot phase of the war is underway.
“I can compare this with the situation when, during a complex operation, we ask the surgeon for a prognosis for recovery. Of course, he is confident in in their power, but will not speak in advance. Our military is confident in itself, but it is wrong to make an unambiguous forecast during operations,” Anna Malyar explained.
In addition, she added that in terms of the scale with which Russia entered on the territory of Ukraine, it is clear that they were preparing and are not going to stop.
This is understandable both in the negotiation process and after they shell peaceful Ukrainian cities without any military expediency. This means that they are ready to fight for a long time and will not retreat from their tasks, and there will be no quick victories, – said Anna Malyar.
Deputy Minister of Defense noted that although Western partners supply Ukraine with good weapons, this process is not happens all at once.
“Despite the fact that sometimes I am accused of presenting information pessimistically, in fact, the price of our victories is very high, and they are, first of all, due to the professionalism of our military and high military command,” Malyar said.
She remembered that people often ask: “why the Russians entered certain regions, temporarily occupied cities, bombed us.” Anna Maryar explained that there were situations when the enemy outnumbered the Ukrainian forces by 15 times.
“Our armed forces have achieved some success in such situations, but not everything has been successful so far. Therefore, certain territories are temporarily occupied, but we will return them,” the deputy defense minister summed up.
