Representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Andrey Yusovstated that there are people in Ukrainian captivity who are of great interest to the aggressor country Russia.
He said this on air at the United News telethon, answering the question whether we still have such persons whose return the Russian Federation is very interested in.
– Yes. And the number of such persons is increasing. Of course, the exchange process, especially the negotiation process, — This is a very subtle thing, closed and non-public. In most cases, commenting on it is inappropriate and can harm future exchanges. There are persons in Ukrainian captivity who are of great interest to the enemy, — noted Yusov.
He added that as of now, 49 prisoner exchanges have already taken place between Ukraine and the aggressor state, as part of which 2,828 Ukrainians returned home.
Now watching
– There will be more to come. It was indeed very difficult in the last six months; the negotiation process did not stop. And thanks, in particular, to the latest exchange, we can say that there are significant shifts that will further accelerate such things. But in the end — it depends on the two sides and the position of the aggressor state matters here, — emphasized the representative of the GUR.
At what stage are negotiations blocked
According to Yusov, this happens at the motivation stage. If Ukraine wants to return its own, then it uses very diverse tools to do this. He recalled the exchange of Viktor Medvedchuk, who was given to the Russian Federation, as well as the mixed medical commissions initiated by Ukraine and the Red Cross.
– In Russia there is also growing discontent among the families of Russian military personnel who are looking for their relatives in Ukraine as missing persons. And often they turn to Ukraine, as a more open party, for official information, — he said.
Yusov noted that an imitation of elections is beginning in the Russian Federation, which creates certain additional challenges and a certain demand for the continuation of this process. According to him, the main thing for us — is to use every opportunity to return our defenders.
On Wednesday, January 3, it became known that 230 people returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity, including 224 military and six civilians.
