Technical characteristics of Buyan-M
Buyan-M is a carrier of Caliber cruise missiles, which the invaders use to attack Ukraine, and the Russian Federation has only nine such ships in total.
The vessel belongs to a series of multi-purpose small missile and artillery ships (SMRK) of the Russian Federation of the third rank of small displacement with guided missile weapons for the near sea zone of the “river — class. sea”. The official purpose of such vessels — “protection and protection of the country's economic zone in inland sea basins”.

The ship is equipped with a 3S14 vertical launch system, having eight Onyx and Kalibr cruise missiles.This makes it possible for the Russian Federation to launch strikes at a distance of up to 1,500 km. Anti-ship missiles from the Caliber complex can hit sea targets at a distance of up to 500 km. The ship also has artillery weapons and machine guns.
However, due to the installation of fairly powerful missile weapons, there is no room for adequate air defense — there are none left. Everything that protects Buyan-M ships from air attack — these are two Gibka complexes.
Features of Buyan-M
The ship can quickly relocate, for example, from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea along the country’s inland waterways, being in comparative safety.
Project 21631 “security” The Russian Federation often uses these devices in its own military operations, launching Calibers from them at ground targets. In particular, during the operation in Syria, three Russian small missiles of this project, as well as a missile cruiser of Project 11661K, attacked the positions of the terrorist organization ISIS from the Caspian Sea on October 7, 2015. 26 launches of Calibers against 11 ground targets were reported.
It is possible that the occupiers are also launching Calibers from Buyan-M in Ukraine.
