The Ukrainian military can attack targets on Russian territory with weapons donated by Canada and Finland.
This was announced by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Canada Mélanie Joly and Finland Elina Valtonen.
For her part, Joly noted that NATO will also discuss this issue.
They are watching now
“She expressed the opinion that perspective should be taken into account in this matter. “Why? Because Russia has no “red lines”, and therefore we must be sure that when it comes to protecting Ukraine, we are ready to help and show that, despite what is happening, we are on her side. Canada does not have any conditions for the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and therefore we will continue to work with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, — Jolie stated.
In addition, according to Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Ukraine can hit military targets on the territory of an aggressor country if it is necessary for self-defense, writes Uusi Suomi. She noted that Finland has not set any restrictions on its assistance to Ukraine, but assumes that the materials are used in accordance with international law.
– Russia is waging an illegal war of aggression in Ukraine, and Ukraine has the right to self-defense according to Art. 51 of the UN Charter. This also includes attacks on military targets in the attacker’s territory, necessary for self-defense, said the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
Strikes on Russia with Western weapons
Ten EU countries have already come out in favor of allowing Ukraine to use their weapons to launch strikes on Russian territory. Also, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the West to allow Ukraine to strike at Russian territory. However, there are also those countries that do not support such an idea, in particular Germany.
Despite the fact that the White House opposes such a decision, on May 29, The Washington Post released information that US President Joseph Biden is considering withdrawing restrictions on Ukraine's use of American missiles to attack targets on Russian territory.
