Valery Zaluzhny's adviser Dan Rice said that it would be easier for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to deal with the occupiers if DPICM shells were handed over to them. The use of this ammunition has both positive and negative sides.
In general, DPICM is a cluster projectile. In simple words, it is a container, inside of which there are a large number of mines. This Channel 24 was told by military expert Pavel Narozhny.
How a cluster shell works
This container opens up in the air and fills up a vast area with explosive devices. Thus, it is possible to eliminate a large number of personnel, since there will be not one explosion, but a lot of small ones.
When using cluster munitions, a large area is sown with mines. The “plus” of these shells is a large number of explosions. At the same time, there is a “minus” – about 2 – 3% of these mines do not explode, but remain in the ground.
Therefore, it can pose a threat to our military during an offensive or to the population after the liberation of this territory. Thus, all territories where such ammunition was used need very serious demining after the hostilities.
Ukraine has the necessary weapons for the use of DPICM
< p>The United States cannot use DPICM ammunition because it has signed international agreements that prohibit it. At the same time, Ukraine did not sign them, that is, technically it can use cluster shells.
Moreover, we have the necessary weapons to use the DPICM. We are talking about howitzers with a caliber of 105 and 155 millimeters.
There is one point – the United States produced such ammunition until about 1990, but they produced them throughout the Cold War and they there are millions of such ammunition in warehouses,” the military expert noted.

In his opinion, theoretically, the United States can transfer cluster shells to us. There is another interesting point here – DPICM is quite old ammunition. That is, they are combat-ready, they can be used, but the time for their neutralization is approaching.
If these shells are handed over to Ukraine, the United States will not pay money for their neutralization. At the same time, Ukraine will receive a huge amount of ammunition. However, will the allies hand over a political issue to us DPICM.
