The White House urged not to politicize the allocation of aid to Ukraine and Israel

The White House accused Republicans of politicizing the national interest after they introduced a separate bill to help Israel through appropriations from the Internal Revenue Service.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said this at a briefing.

— Politicizing our national security interests is doomed to failure. Demanding compensation for basic national security needs of the United States, such as supporting Israel and protecting Ukraine from atrocities and Russian imperialism, would be a violation of the normal bipartisan process and could have devastating consequences for our security and alliances in future years, she said.

Jean-Pierre noted that there is strong bipartisan agreement that humanitarian assistance is critical to ending the suffering of innocent people in Gaza, which is in direct U.S. national security interests.

Additionally, she said, there is strong bipartisan agreement that helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty from horrific crimes committed by Russian forces is in the country's direct national security interests.

There is also strong support for increased investment in border security.

The White House press secretary stressed that cutting funding for the Internal Revenue Service, which the Republicans are proposing, will help large corporations avoid paying taxes honestly and will lead to an increase in the budget deficit.

“Politics that threaten Israel’s source of self-defense funding—now and in the future—would set an unacceptable precedent that calls into question our loyalty to one of our closest allies,” she said.

Earlier, the new representative of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said that a bill to help Israel could be passed this week.

At the same time, proposals from the administration of US President Joe Biden regarding a general package that includes assistance to Ukraine will be ignored.
