The US Senate on December 13 supported the defense policy bill. It authorizes a record $886 billion in annual military spending. Interestingly, the document contains references to Ukraine.

The Senate approved the National Defense Authorization Bill (NDAA) with a record amount of authorized spending – 3% more than last year. Reuters writes that the document contains a provision on the possibility of allocating funds to Ukraine.

Details regarding Ukraine

The law talks about the possibility of allocating $300 million as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. However, the agency noted, this amount is tiny compared to the 61 billion in aid included in Joe Biden’s additional funding package.

We are also talking about the creation of the Office of the Special Inspector General for Assistance to Ukraine. Its responsibilities include conducting, supervising and coordinating and investigating funds appropriated or otherwise made available for military and non-military support of our nation.

The Act will extend to 2024 (when Joe Biden will sign it) authorizes the US President to provide or lease defense items to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

NDAA will ensure America's ability to take a stand against Russia, stand firm against the Chinese Communist Party, and ensure that the U.S. military remains the most modern in the world. – Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer previously said.
