The US has threatened to impose separate sanctions on individuals and companies outside of Russia who would help the terrorist country bypass the restrictions. Washington is ready to expand the punishment and introduce so-called “secondary” sanctions.

This statement was made by US national security adviser Jake Sullivan. The official shared the information with reporters as Joe Biden left Belgium for Poland on March 25.

“Secondary” Sanctions for Kremlin Allies

Sullivan's statement comes amid growing US concern that Russia will try to circumvent the financial isolation imposed by the West on the aggressor country by all means.

Putin will try to find alternative sources of foreign currency and business agreements to support the Russian economy and the ruble, the White House is convinced.

We have a number of tools to enforce (sanctions restrictions – ed. 24 channel), and one is exposing individuals or entities in third-party jurisdictions that are not complying with US sanctions against Russia or are making systematic efforts to weaken or avoid their influence. We are ready to use these tools if necessary,” said the US national security adviser.

In addition, the day before, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also stated that the EU is now studying the effect of sanctions in more detail in order to identify any loopholes or efforts made by Russia to get around the restrictions.
