The US State Department understands the position of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky regarding the inappropriateness of elections during a war.
Deputy Speaker of the US State Department Vedant Patel stated this at a briefing.
“It’s important to remember that Ukraine is in this position because Russia continues its full-scale illegal war against it,” he said.
Patel noted that almost 20% of Ukraine's territory is occupied, and tens of millions of citizens have become refugees and temporarily displaced persons. In addition, Russia continues to bomb civilian infrastructure throughout the country every day.

The deputy representative of the State Department emphasized that the position voiced by Zelensky is, after all, “consistent with their Constitution.”
“The United States remains committed not only to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, but also to preserving the strength of democracy in wartime,” Patel added.
On November 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that there would be no elections in Ukraine during a full-scale war.
