The United States and the European Union condemned Vladimir Putin's decision to simplify the issuance of Russian passports in Kherson and Zaporozhye. In the West, Moscow was warned ahead of time that no one would ever recognize such acts.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a briefing, that the issuance of Russian passports in the occupied territories is a disguised move by Moscow, Channel 24 reports.
He noted that the Kremlin wants to impose its freedom on Ukrainians. At the same time, the United States rejects all attempts by Moscow to subjugate the inhabitants of the occupied territories of Ukraine.

The head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, recalled that Russia refused to hold a “referendum” in the temporarily occupied Kherson region due to the lack of support from the local population.
He stressed that such acts by Russia as issuing passports are no and never will.

Russia has begun simplified issuance of passports in the occupied territories of Ukraine
