Ukraine's Western partners continue to look for ways to limit the Russian economy. One of them is the reduction in purchases of Russian energy resources.
US President Joe Biden met with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. They agreed on another step that would deprive Russia of profits and reduce the ability to continue the war in Ukraine.
Reducing dependence on Russian gas
The United States and the EU are developing a plan to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian gas. The parties will create a common task force to work on this task.
This initiative focuses on two key issues. First, help Europe reduce its dependence on Russian gas as soon as possible. Second, reduce Europe's overall demand for gas,” Biden said.
This year, the US will provide Europe with 15 billion cubic meters of gas so that the EU will reduce gas purchases from Russia. Europe will work to diversify its dependence on the aggressor for fuel.
