The Russian leadership has been warned by the United States that they will face catastrophic consequences if they use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The US and partners say they will give a strong response to the Kremlin if it strikes with a nuclear weapon.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan commented on the recent nuclear threats from Russia. He emphasized that this should be “treated very seriously, because this is a matter of prime importance.”
Russia received a direct warning from the United States
Jake Sullivan noted that nuclear weapons were usable for the first time since World War II. According to him, Russia received a direct warning.
We told the Kremlin directly, privately, at a very high level, that any use of nuclear weapons would be catastrophic for Russia, that the United States and our allies would respond strongly, said the US national security adviser .
He said that Russia was told what consequences would come for it if nuclear weapons were used. At the same time, Sullivan stressed that the United States will continue to support Ukraine.
“And we have been clear and specific about what this will entail. We have also publicly stated that, in principle, the United States will respond strongly if Russia uses nuclear weapons, and that we will continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to protect its country and its democracy,” he concluded.
