According to a US Department of Defense spokesman, this was the first time that aircraft from two countries were intercepted during a joint operation.

This is also the first time that Chinese bombers have flown into the air defense identification zone in Alaska. However, Russian aircraft enter it regularly.
– July 24, 2024 NORAD detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian TU-95 military aircraft and two PRC H-6 military aircraft operating within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone ( ADIZ). The interception was carried out by NORAD fighters from the United States and Canada, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a statement.
It is noted that the bombers did not enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.
NORAD noted that Russian and Chinese military aircraft were operating within the Alaskan air defense recognition zone and were not considered a threat.
The interception was carried out by American F-16s and F-35s, as well as Canadian CF-18s.
