On Wednesday, March 8, UN Secretary General António Guterres arrived in Kyiv on a visit. This is his third trip to Ukraine.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General, announced this. Guterres arrived in the capital of Ukraine at night.
What is the purpose of the visit of the UN Secretary General
During his third visit to Kyiv since the start of the all-out war, Guterres will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The goal is to negotiate the extension of the grain agreement.
Note that the contract for the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea expires on March 18. Now the UN insists on another continuation.
Last visit of Guterres
On August 18, 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with UN Secretary General António Guterres. They discussed the export of grain, and the deportation, and the release of Ukrainians from captivity.
In addition, the President of Ukraine spoke with the UN Secretary General about nuclear blackmail carried out by Russia. Negotiations were held in Lvov.
Guterres urged Russia not to disconnect ZNPP from the Ukrainian energy system
Earlier, António Guterres once again appealed to Russia about the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP. He urged not to disconnect the energy system of Ukraine from the nuclear power plant.
According to the Secretary General, even the threat of such a step is unacceptable, since there is international law and its principles that cannot be violated.
Guterres noted that there is only one right attitude to who the ZNPP should serve. After all, the station belonged and will always belong to the Ukrainian state.
