Ukraine signed an agreement with the UN and Turkey to unblock ports for the export of grain. Russia also signed an agreement with the UN and Turkey. At the same time, no agreements were signed between Ukraine and Turkey.
The agreement indicated the need for security both for ships carrying products and other objects that will be used for this.
But the very next day, July 23, Russia launched a missile attack on the port of Odessa. It is one of three ports that were supposed to be unblocked as part of the agreements. In this case, the blow was struck exactly where the grain was stored. the invaders fired four rockets, two of which were shot down.
Due to the fact that the agreements were signed with the support of the UN, they expressed their dissatisfaction with this missile strike. UN Secretary General António Guterres condemned such an act.
“Yesterday, all parties clearly committed themselves on the world stage to ensure the safe movement of Ukrainian grain and related products to world markets. These products are essential to resolve the global food crisis and alleviate the suffering of millions of people in need of help around the world.” Full implementation by Russia, Ukraine and Turkey is mandatory,” the UN said in a statement.
