The Ukrainian women's handball team made it past the preliminary round of the World Cup for the first time in 18 years.

The Ukrainian women's handball team won its first victory at the 2023 World Cup, beating Kazakhstan with a score of 37:24.

This victory allowed the Ukrainians to guarantee themselves a place in the top three of Group G and advance to the main part of the tournament.

The most productive members of the Ukrainian national team on the court were welterweights Yulia Andreychuk and Milana Shukal, who made eight effective shots each. Marina Konovalova added six more goals, and Tamara Smbatyan added four.

The Ukrainian team passed the preliminary round for the first time since 2005 , when it entered the top ten strongest on the planet. Since then, the blue-yellows have been eliminated from the fight at this stage of the competition twice.

In other matches of the group, the Ukrainians suffered defeats from Brazil (20:35) and Spain (20:32).

In the main part of the tournament, Ukraine will fight for a place in the quarterfinals in a group of six teams.

The rivals will definitely be the teams of the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and the winner of the head-to-head confrontation between Argentina and Congo. The two strongest teams will advance to the knockout matches.
