Ukraine is preparing to launch a major winter offensive against Russia when harsh conditions prevent ground attacks, a senior general has said.
Brigadier General Sergei Baranov, head of the military unit overseeing unmanned operations, stated this in an interview with The Independent.
According to him, the occupied Crimea and the border regions of Russia will be subject to new air strikes. Kyiv's targets will be military bases and infrastructure.

Sergei Baranov noted that Ukraine wants to continue to increase the number of strikes against Russian targets using drones, as, for example, in Crimea and the western regions of the Russian Federation.
Let us recall that Ukraine, with the help of attack naval drones, attacked Russian warships, and with the help of saboteurs, it attacked air bases in the depths of Russia, destroying a long-range Tu-22M bomber and damaging two more aircraft.
The publication notes that currently Kyiv relies more on its own production of drones, but Western assistance also significantly expands the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. For example, in May of this year, Great Britain promised to transfer drones with a flight range of up to 200 km to Ukraine.
“We intend to use the experience gained over previous years and use drones to deliver a crushing blow to the occupiers when the fighting is more static [this winter],” said General Baranov.
We have some of the best and most experienced drone pilots in the world, he said.
Last winter there was some lull at the front, as snow and frost prevented active advance. And this year, the run-up to February could be decisive as Ukraine prevents the invaders from regrouping and strengthening their defenses.

According to General Baranov, Kyiv also expects numerous counterattacks from Russia, since in recent weeks the Russian Federation has been saving its missiles and drones. The General Staff has repeatedly stated that the Russians will definitely try to hit our critical infrastructure so that the Ukrainians will freeze and sit without electricity.
