Dmitry Kuleba visited China and met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Ukrainian minister said that a just peace in Ukraine meets China’s strategic interests.

Political scientist, partner of the Good Politics communication agency Maxim Dzhigun told 24 Channel that signals from China are always contradictory and ambiguous, just like Beijing’s proposals for peace in Ukraine. However, for our country this is an important moment in order to show the ability to end the war diplomatically.

There are also problems with the supply of military aid from partners, the political scientist noted.

At the same time, the United States is in the active phase of the election campaign. The Republican presidential candidate does not make the Chinese political leadership very happy. And the fight for the nomination of the Democratic candidate continues. It is during this intermediate stage of political life in the United States that the Chinese have become more active.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is not in a position where it can set the time and place of the meeting with Chinese diplomats. Therefore, when they invited Ukraine, it was impossible for Ukraine to refuse it,” he explained.

In a situation where China is one of the key players in international politics, not meeting with the country’s foreign minister and other officials on their territory would be a huge mistake. Therefore, as Dzhigun noted, Kuleba responded to this request.

This meeting is important for Ukraine, because there is an opportunity to find compromises or other options for a peaceful settlement than those that Russia is imposing today, and our country considers them “red lines” that cannot be crossed.

“This will give the Chinese side an understanding of how to move forward in this case, whether it is worth becoming active now and putting pressure on Russia. Or perhaps they will realize that there are no prerequisites for China to emerge victorious from this war and sign the “peace agreement”, so it is worth giving up on this for a while,” Maxim Dzhigun emphasized.
