The state gives 900 UAH for books: who can use the program

On June 18, the President of Ukraine signed Law No. 11251, which will make it possible to receive state assistance for obtaining books.

According to document, the main goal of the aid is to attract young people to reading and tear them away from gadgets. Moreover, the funds can be spent not only on printed copies, but also on electronic versions, as well as on books for people with visual impairments.

According to the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy and co-author of the law Evgeniya Kravchuk, the money that young readers will receive will be spent on support for Ukrainian publishers. This will allow publishing more than 2 million copies of Ukrainian books and provide subsidies to publishers to cover the rent of bookstore premises.

All these expenses are provided for in the budget, so the state does not plan to allocate additional money.

Who can get 900 UAH for books in Dii

Article 18.3 of the relevant law notes that not all Ukrainians can receive certificates.

Among the likely recipients — persons who turned 18 years of age after January 1, 2024. They will be able to receive assistance for one year after the date of majority.

The law states that young parents can also receive this certificate within one year after the baby’s birthday. But this will be possible only after the end of martial law.

900 UAH for books: how to get

According to the law, you can get help for purchasing books from July 1, 2024. The mechanism should be detailed by the Cabinet of Ministers, in particular, to adopt the regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this law.

— Help is credited to the current account with a special mode of using eBook, — says the law.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Books Alexandra Koval notes that some formalities remain that will determine how assistance will be provided for obtaining books. We must wait for the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which will determine the procedure for providing assistance and prescribe how the funds can be spent.
