On June 18, on the page of the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy Evgenia Kravchuk, information appeared about the president signing a new bill.

According to this document, through the Diya application, certain categories of citizens can receive money to buy books. The main goal of assistance — attract young people to reading and take them away from gadgets. Moreover, funds can be spent not only on printed copies, but also on electronic versions, as well as on books for people with visual impairments.

According to Evgeniya Kravchuk, the money that young readers will receive will be spent on supporting Ukrainian publishers. This will allow publishing more than 2 million copies of Ukrainian books and providing subsidies to publishers to cover the rent of bookstore premises.

All these expenses are provided for in the budget, so the state does not plan to allocate additional money.

Who will be able to receive 900 UAH for books in Diya

Article 18.3 of the corresponding bill notes that not all Ukrainians can receive certificates.

Among the probable recipients are — persons who turned 18 years old after January 1, 2024.

The bill states that young parents will also be able to receive this certificate within one year after the baby's birthday.

900 UAH for books: how to get

According to the bill, assistance for the purchase of books can be received from July 1, 2024. The mechanism must be detailed by the Cabinet of Ministers, in particular, adopt regulatory legal acts necessary for the implementation of the provisions of this law.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Book Oleksandra Koval notes that some formalities remain that will determine how assistance for obtaining books will be provided. We must wait for the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution, which will determine the procedure for providing assistance and will prescribe how the funds can be spent.
