The situation in the Ukrainian energy system as of January 19 is slightly better than the day before. Warming is helping to improve the situation.

Ukrenergo said that a significant shortage of power remains in the energy system. But due to warming, a decrease in electricity consumption is expected.

The most difficult situation with light in the evening

There is a particularly tangible capacity shortage in the evening, when generation can cover only 3/4 of consumption. The reason for the shortage is power plants (generating capacities) and the high-voltage network damaged after Russian attacks.

Consumption limits for the whole day have been brought to all oblenergos. Exceeding the limits leads to the risk of creating emergency situations in the power system. Therefore, emergency shutdowns are used to prevent them.

Ukrenergo noted that the previous Russian attack on January 14 caused significant damage to several power units of thermal power plants.

It is reported that Ukrenergo has completed the repair of an autotransformer at one of the substations in the Dnipro region. They also restored the damaged power line that connects the Zaporozhye NPP with the Ukrainian energy system, provides its power, preventing an accident.

What is known about Russia's attacks on the Ukrainian energy system

  • Ukraine's energy system has already survived 12 enemy missile attacks and 14 drone attacks on power facilities. The previous similar attack took place on January 14.
  • The invaders hit a block of a thermal power plant in the East. In addition, 8 blocks of thermal power plants in the West of our state were damaged. It is also known about the destruction of three main substations and one overhead line.
  • Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utilities Andrey Gerus said that power outages could become larger. The reason is the damage inflicted on January 14.
  • Russia is attacking the Ukrainian energy system, because it is trying to plunge Ukraine into darkness. But despite numerous attacks, the Ukrainian energy system is working.
