The situation in the Kharkov region, the collapse of a house in Belgorod and the outbreak of hepatitis A in the Kiev region: the main news on May 12

by alex

The situation at the front in the Kharkov region is quite difficult, but the invaders are unable to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian military. In particular, Volchansk is under constant fire from the occupiers, and counterattack actions by the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue.

In Belgorod, a house collapsed after explosions, causing injuries to people. The Center for Poisonous Action under the National Security and Defense Council noted that this looks like another provocation of the Russian Federation in order to justify further attacks on residential buildings in Ukrainian cities.

An outbreak of hepatitis A was recorded in the Kyiv region and the capital — 5 people sought medical help there.

Situation at the front

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, commenting on the situation at the front in the Kharkov region, noted that the attempts of the Russian invaders to break through the defenses have been stopped, but the situation remains aggravated.

— We know the enemy's plans and react flexibly to all his actions. To strengthen defense, all necessary measures and operational decisions are being taken, in particular personnel, — emphasized the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Heat battles continue in the Kupyansky, Seversky, Limansky and Pokrovsky directions, the situation is changing very dynamically.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops are still trying to capture the city of Chasov Yar, continuing offensive operations east of the city.

Russia is unsuccessfully trying to restore the lost position in the Kleshcheevka area, said the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In turn, the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andrey Yusov called on the invaders in the Kharkov direction to surrender.

— About the possibility of surrendering: such cases are already actively happening. We have information from fighters of the RDK, the Russian Freedom Legion, and the Siberian Battalion. They also made an appeal to the Russian occupiers: either go over to the side of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, or surrender, noted Andrey Yusov.

B ISW noted that the Russian Army has resorted to relatively limited offensive operations along the Russian-Ukrainian border in the north of the Kharkov region and continues to achieve significant tactical successes in probably less protected areas.

At the same time, analysts believe that when attempting to advance to large border settlements, such as Liptsy and Volchansk, the Russians will face more intense resistance.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that in the vicinity of the city of Volchansk the situation is extremely difficult – the city is under constant Russian fire, and counterattack actions by our military continue.

Evacuation in the Kharkov region

In the Kharkov region, due to the difficult situation at the front, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated in two days. Among them are 1,377 local residents from the Chuguevsky district, 2,097 people from the Kharkovsky district, 29 people from the Bogodukhovsky district. Another 570 people were evacuated by volunteers.

At the same time, almost 900 more places for evacuees were opened in the Kharkov region. If necessary, this number is planned to be increased.

Attack of the oil refinery and oil depot near Kaluga

On the night of May 12, drones attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery, infrastructure in the industrial zone of Lipetsk, and power lines in Shebekino, Belgorod Region.

The Kaluganefteprodukt oil depot in Lyudinovo, Kaluga region, also came under attack.

This was, sources note, an operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Hepatitis A outbreak in the Kiev region

In Kyiv and the region five cases of viral hepatitis A were recorded. The infection was detected in employees of one of the trading establishments and members of their families.

It is known that the patients sought medical help, some of them are being treated in medical institutions in the city, others are being treated on an outpatient basis.

At the moment, an epidemiological investigation has begun and the necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

Collapse of a house in Belgorod

On May 12, explosions occurred in Belgorod, which resulted in the collapse of a house — One of the eight entrances of the ten-story building was destroyed. Because of this, 19 people were injured, including two children.

Since the emergency coincided with an air raid warning in the region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov hastened to blame the Ukrainian side for the collapse of the house in Belgorod.

In the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which usually holds back information about arrivals and reports only on “successful repulses of attacks” reported that it was destroyed:

  • six Tochka-U missiles;
  • four rockets from the Vampire MLRS;
  • two rockets from the Vilkha MLRS.

The head of the Center for Action under the National Security and Defense Council noted that the collapse of a house in Belgorod is similar to a provocation by Russia to inflate the situation in order to justify further attacks on residential buildings in Ukrainian cities.
