At the moment when the delegations of Macron, Scholz and Draghi arrive in Kyiv on a historic visit, the air raid siren goes off, writes Maria Avdeeva, who posted a video from the scene.
An air raid alarm was announced throughout Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied Kherson region, almost immediately after it became known about the arrival of European leaders in Kyiv.
Explosions, fortunately, were not reported anywhere. Signals about the all-clear were heard at about 11:16.
Chronology of the leaders' visit
- On the morning of June 16, the first photos of the trip of the leaders of France, Germany appeared and Italy to Kyiv by a special Ukrzaliznytsia train.
- At the train station, Macron was met by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanyshina.
- Interestingly, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, also joined the three European leaders.
- By lunchtime, the diplomats arrived in Irpin. Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi, surrounded by several teams of security guards, military and journalists, walked through the streets of the city, where 75% of the buildings were damaged by the invasion of Russian troops.
The purpose of the visit European leaders! First, Macron, Scholz and Draghi want to express their support in this way on the eve of the publication of the conclusion of the European Commission on the status of Ukraine as a candidate member of the European Union. It is this visit that will supposedly help Ukraine gather enough support to grant candidate status now.
At the same time, Interior Minister Viktor Andrusiv, an adviser, suggested that in addition to granting Ukraine candidate status in the EU, the leaders plan to discuss with President Zelensky resumption of negotiations with Russia.
