The SBU detained dealers who sold captured sniper weapons to criminals

In the Donetsk region, the SBU and the National Police detained four residents of the Dnepropetrovsk region who were selling captured sniper weapons and explosives to criminals in the front-line areas of the Donetsk and Kharkov regions.

This was stated in a message from the SBU press service on Tuesday, May 14.

Among those seized from the defendants — Russian AK-12 assault rifles, sniper rifles, anti-tank grenade launchers and explosives.

In the Donetsk region, law enforcement officers neutralized a criminal group that included four residents of the Dnepropetrovsk region. The criminals were engaged in the sale of military weapons, which were taken from places near the front line.

— SBU officers detained the defendants “hot” during the sale of two RPG-22 rocket-propelled anti-tank grenades. In addition, during searches at the premises of gang members, an arsenal of grenades, Kalashnikov assault rifles and grenade launchers was seized, the report says.

According to the SBU materials, the detainees have already been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 and part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In the Kharkov region, on the territory of a private household, the military counterintelligence of the SBU discovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition. There was also an underground workshop for repairing and restoring damaged weapons.

According to the investigation, the cache with the illegal workshop was set up by the owner of the apartment — driver of a local military unit. He planned to sell the repaired weapons on the darknet, where criminals were potential clients.

During a search in the defendant’s house, the following was confiscated:

  • 3 kg of plastid;
  • more than 100 combat grenades;
  • 10 anti-tank, mortar and anti-personnel mines;
  • Kalashnikov light machine gun;
  • Dragunov sniper rifle;
  • 2 Metis anti-tank missile systems;
  • rocket infantry flamethrower;
  • more than 10 thousand cartridges of various calibers.

Investigations continue to investigate the exposed facts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The SBU noted that all seized weapons and ammunition will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
