Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on the exchange of prisoners are always difficult. For the enemy, his military is not a value, so he is not interested in their return.

About this Channel 24said adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Rostislav Smirnov. He noted that there is very great resistance on the part of Russia regarding the exchange of prisoners.

Why the exchange negotiations are difficult

Smirnov noted that the negotiations with Russia on the exchange of prisoners are quite complicated. Because Ukraine does not see a reciprocal desire from the other side. And in general, there are two nuances in this matter.

For objective reasons, unfortunately, we must state the fact that there are much more prisoners from our side than ours now prisoners from their side, – said the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

After all, he noted, the enemy is fighting on the territory of Ukraine. In the first months of the war, he significantly outnumbered us, having a very high parity both in armament and in manpower. Therefore, the invaders, in particular, had some success in some positions.

“The Russians are not at all interested”

Smirnov explained that the second nuance is that there is very strong resistance from the other side, a certain unwillingness to return their prisoners.

And any position, any statement – they use it in some of his propaganda,” he said.

There is an extremely fragile position on the return of their soldiers. They are completely uninterested. Here, let's say, it's more of a one-sided game,” Smirnov said.

He stressed that Ukraine will continue negotiations, no matter what, until it can return all our soldiers, who are the most important value for us.

In addition, the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs added, Ukraine really wants to replenish its exchange fund thanks, in particular, to our counter-offensive actions in the South.
