For several months, Bakhmut has been the hottest spot on the front. The Russians are trying to capture it at any cost and have decided to change tactics.
Military expert Andrei Kharuk spoke about this on the air of Channel 24 . He noted that the Russians would probably try to break through the defenses of Bakhmut for a long time and throw more and more forces there.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War reported that the Russians changed tactics at Bakhmut. From attempts to cordon off, they moved on to attempts to “squeeze” the Ukrainian defense forces out of the city.
Why did the Russians decide to change tactics
Haruk suggested that it was the chernozem, which becomes impassable for vehicles during the thaw. And in the city, unlike the surrounding area, there are streets with a hard surface, it is somewhat easier to develop hostilities there.
According to the map of hostilities, now the city of Bakhmut is in a semi-encirclement. Apparently, the Russians believe that the routes they control are enough to launch an attack directly on the city, the expert noted.

Likely street fighting
A change in Russian tactics would mean intense street fighting, the speaker stressed, but the Ukrainian armed forces have already shown a knack for repelling such attacks.
In May last year, immediately following the results of literally the first months of hostilities, two Russian professional journals published articles on the tactics of military operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the defense of cities. In this kind of fighting, our warriors are trained and prepared enough,” Haruk added.
According to him, theoretically, if the enemy does not try to concentrate efforts in another direction, then Bakhmut will be attacked for a very long time.
“Since there are no very active hostilities in other areas, the Russians can send all available reserves to Bakhmut,” the speaker said.
The situation in Bakhmut: the latest
- Russian troops have already launched a new large-scale offensive for a month. He must restore the pace of the war, at least as planned by the invaders. In fact, they have not had any significant success. the occupiers barely moved.
- Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov noted that our military destroy terrorists every day on Bakhmut, they “pack” them in hundreds. According to him, if the Armed Forces of Ukraine cannot defend themselves in Bakhmut, then the troops will be overturned in other directions. Our warriors will defend the city for as long as they see fit.
- The military support of the invaders is frankly lame. The military man Volodymyr Nazarenko said that in December the Ukrainian military saw with their own eyes that the invaders were on the second and third lines of defense even without machine guns.
