Destruction of the OCU temple in Crimea — Ukraine's reaction
— On July 21, representatives of the occupation authorities began dismantling the Holy Cross Church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Yevpatoria.
This was preceded by the issuance in 2019 of an illegal decision of the occupation Yevpatoriya City Court on the demolition of this temple, — indicated by Ukrainian law enforcement officers.
Such a decision by the Russian administration grossly violates the requirements of Article 147 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949, which prohibits the destruction of property not justified by military necessity.
Prosecutors also pointed to violations by the Kremlin of the Hague Regulations, namely Article 56, which provides for the protection of religious institutions from seizure, destruction or intentional damage.
The prosecutor's office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
All those involved in the liquidation of the last Ukrainian temple on the peninsula face up to 12 years in prison.
