The Russian Federation has frozen the exchange of prisoners with Ukraine since the summer – Coordination Headquarters

There have been no exchanges of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia since August 7, when 22 Ukrainians returned home. Moscow actually froze this process.

This was stated by the representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War , Pyotr Yatsenko.

— Negotiations are ongoing now, work continues. But indeed, since the summer, Russia has actually frozen exchanges. They are not happening to the extent that they did before,” he emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine is ready for an exchange even tomorrow, since we are already running out of places to hold captive Russians.

“We know that the conditions in which our defenders are in Russia are significantly worse than those that we offer as a European country that adheres to the Third Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War,” Yatsenko noted.

In addition, the Russian Federation is not interested in the fate of its prisoners, so it delays exchanges, creates various obstacles, “in fact, this is some kind of chicanery in order to slow down this process, and in order to be able to conduct some kind of propaganda campaigns,” he believes.

On August 7, another 22 Ukrainian defenders were returned from Russian captivity. Among them are two officers, as well as privates and sergeants. The soldiers took part in hostilities in different directions.

In early September, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, spoke about the obstacles on the part of the Russian Federation in the issue of exchanging prisoners of war in an all-for-all format.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that Ukraine will be able to overcome these obstacles, and is already close to the Russian Federation agreeing to a meeting on this issue.
