Ukraine's partners have the Patriot systems necessary to protect Ukrainians, but the West does not have the same determination that it had when defending Israel from an Iranian attack.
President Vladimir Zelensky announced this in his evening address following the results of April 27.
Massive shelling of Ukraine
The head of state commented on the massive nighttime missile strike, when Russia fired 34 missiles of different types.
Now watching
— Main target — This is energy, various industry facilities: both electric power and gas transit facilities. It is precisely those gas facilities on which, in particular, the security of supplies to the European Union depends, — the President said.
According to him, some of the missiles were shot down today, for which he thanked the Ukrainian military.
— The missile trajectories and the very nature of the strike were calculated by Russian terrorists in such a way as to complicate the work of our air defense as much as possible. Every missile shot down today — this is a significant result, — he added.
The head of state also thanked his partners for their assistance in air defense.
— Now every system for protecting the sky, every missile defense — it is literally life-protecting. And it is important that all new agreements with partners who already exist to strengthen our air defense, it is important that every initiative of Ukraine’s friends help, in particular, with the search and supply of Patriot, — to make it all work as quickly as possible, — he said.
Zelensky reported that as a result of the attack, power engineers and repair teams were working in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkov and Dnipropetrovsk regions. All necessary services have been brought in to restore the generation and distribution that were destroyed by the Russian strikes.
— The maximum possible will definitely be done. And I thank everyone who is working now, worked all day, — he said.
The President emphasized that attacks such as today should not turn into a routine for the world, and therefore he separately thanked all the leaders who react and condemn Russian terror.
— For terrorists to lose, the solidarity of leaders in defense against terror must work 24/7, just like the people who eliminate the consequences of the attacks, and like our soldiers, who do everything every day and night to do everything with the forces that we have in Ukraine. as much as possible for Ukraine, — he added.
Ukraine's need for Patriot air defense systems
Vladimir Zelensky repeated his thesis that Ukraine needs at least seven Patriot systems.
— Partners have these Patriots. Russian terrorists see that Our partners, unfortunately, do not now have the same determination for Europe in protecting against terror that they demonstrated in the Middle East, — he said.
However, the president adds, today Ukraine’s partners still have the opportunity “to provide the required quantity and quality of air defense systems”.
— We must not waste time — it is necessary to give the necessary signal of determination, — stated the head of state.
Sanctions against Russia
Separately, Vladimir Zelensky thanked all countries and leaders who are really working to limit Russian sanctions circumvention schemes.
— Thanks to all politicians and public figures, journalists who report on how Russia imports components for missiles and other weapons — in violation of peace sanctions. Every material in the media about schemes to circumvent sanctions, every public call for strengthening sanctions, all the political work for this, which leads to results, limits not only Putin’s terror, but terror in general, — he said.
Therefore, the head of state notes, this has a “global meaning of our interaction”.
Australia aid package
The Ukrainian leader also commented on the announced new support package for Ukraine from Australia.
— It is military support — something that will strengthen our air defense, plus drones, military equipment. Thank you!” — he said.
Vladimir Zelensky also spoke about the negotiations between the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Deputy Head of the Government of Australia, the Minister of Defense. Now the president is awaiting a report from the head of the Ukrainian government on the negotiations.
