The Russian Federation once again showed the face of a terrorist when pro-Kremlin troops shot Ukrainian defenders who were surrendering.
This was stated by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmitry Lubinets, commenting on the video that appeared online today. On it you can see how the Russian occupiers executed Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered.
“The execution of those who surrender is a war crime!” This is another violation of the Geneva Conventions and a manifestation of disrespect for international humanitarian law! The world should not condone these crimes, the ombudsman said.
He appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross, whose mandate includes recording crimes against prisoners of war. The video clearly shows that the Ukrainian military is performing the necessary steps, which show that they are surrendering.

Lubinets noticed that the warriors were disarmed and their hands were raised up, that is, they did not pose any threat. The Russian side had to take these soldiers prisoner and grant them the status of prisoners of war.
The Ombudsman appealed to the United Nations to have a permanent UN monitoring mission record this fact as another striking example of violation of international humanitarian law by Russia.
In his opinion, the Russian Federation should be punished for every similar case of execution of Ukrainian military personnel who surrender.
He noted that they are not isolated. In particular, we are talking about the murder of soldier Alexander Matsievsky, the public execution of prisoners of war in Yelenovka and other military personnel who surrendered.
At the same time, Lubinets noted that Ukrainian law enforcement and intelligence agencies will be able to identify those Russian military personnel who committed this crime. He noted that these crimes are the responsibility of the top leadership of the Russian Federation, so all those responsible must be punished.
